Hah, yes, I spent evenings on the mainframe terminals to play on the pre Internet back in the days it was mostly educational institutes (netnews, mudds, etc)
I worked in computer security by the time the Internet was much of a thing though.
The real question is why on earth one would need to post a message to delete a forum account, rather than clicking a button in one’s account settings ?
Deleting one’s account is one’s absolute right, and has no reason to be at the pleasure of a random moderator or any other person.
edit: ah, nevermind I see deleting the account also scrubs all posts, it seems.
Deleting an account and scrubbing the posts are two very different things and shouldn’t be called the same. Apparently discourse also permits what it calls “anonymizing the account”, which is what I call “deleting the account — but not scrubbing”.
That is what should be accessible to all users at any time through a button.
