I’m not sure if anyone else frequently suffered from the problem I used to have. I would always accidentally drag my cursor over the category titles and activate them. Perhaps there’s a way to disable mouseover activation but that’s not what I wanted. Luckily there’s a simple option to change the sidebar position to the right, so it’s much harder to accidentally change categories when moving your cursor towards an icon of your favorites. Just right click on the menu icon, then configure application launcher. There you can see the option to move the sidebar to the right. It should now look like this

I’ve used Plasma for years and I didn’t know this was an option. I rarely navigate with a mouse, but this looks more intuitive than the default config. Might change back from the alt Application menu (pictured below)
