A brief thank you regarding updates

I’m noticing this a lot when I update: the net upgrade size keeps staying in the negative, sometimes by a ton.

I have 2 distros on a modest SSD so I appreciate the commitment to keep the net packages lighter.

I can only surmise this is happening a lot lately (or I’m noticing it more?) because many package maintainers are tearing out un-necessary/obsolete code in some of these builds?
Or is it something else? or am I mis-reading the whole thing?

There are so many factors that go into producing a single binary, with the associated libraries, compiler choice and version, compile flags used, documentation included as well as any included media assets. I haven’t even mentioned the actual source code yet.

It’s anyone’s guess. I great mystery :sweat_smile:
